| The following books are only a few suggestions. The first two are highly recommended by Dr. David Evans while others have been read and recommended by members of US TOO Brampton. |
Prostate Cancer: A guide for patients by Dr. Laurence Klotz, Coles Notes Medical Series, Prospero Books, 2000, paperback, 164 pages, $12.95 ISBN: 0774006099 Based on the premise that there are almost always options in the treatment of prostate cancer, this book is decision-oriented, with a minimum of story telling. The author encourages men, as well as their family members, to be involved in the process of tackling the disease right from the first screening test to choices of therapy. Dr. Klotz is particularly good at giving simple yet vivid descriptions
of the science at work in prostate cancer. You come away with a clear
picture of whats happening at each stage of cancer growth
from understanding the cellular mechanics that make up the prostate to
how the glands cancer interacts physically and chemically with the
rest of the body. He also offers a frank discussion on the odds of recovery,
taking into account the cancers stage, its progress and which treatment
options apply. Our Voice, Spring, 2001. Recommended
by Dr. David Evans.
